SALES NOTES FROM SOMETHING IN THE WATER
Time for the fourth installment on Manchester's electronic label SOMETHING IN THE WATER. First up on side A is Pitched Black's very unique electronic Disco/House/Techno track 'The Road To Everywhere'. The groove is over 12 minutes long and without a kick drum for the first five minutes, consisiting of three parts within the composition, that build to a crescendo for the coda. A bassline reminsicent of Giorgio Moroder's classic 'I Fee Love' but actually more of an ode to Patrick Cowley's abstract musical paintings A totally unique piece of electronic music.
The B SIde 'We Are All Made Of Stars' also by Pitched Black also touches on new territory, moving away from the dark mood of all previous Pitched Black releases creating a very cosmic deep space groove that is far more luminescent than nocturnal. The track has a ghost of 1988 within it but at the same time remains relentlessly contemporary. Situated as it is within the modern condition, melting between inner and outer space. Like all Pitched Black output the true sting lies in the tail, and the latter section is once again exceptional.
